Hi.

Welcome to She’s Full of Lit!

Here, we chat about our favorite (and sometimes least favorite) books, share recommendations on everything from what wine pairs best with that work of fiction to facemasks that make your non-fiction read even better, and live our best basic bookworm lives.

Shannon

It should surprise no one that I will read any list of underrated beauty products.

I excitedly saw the new adaptation of “Little Women” over the holidays and while I still have a serious soft spot for the 1994 Winona Ryder/Christian Bale movie, I loved the updated take on Amy. This New York Times profile of actress Florence Pugh was just the thing to accompany the movie.

If it seems like every influencer is launching her own line of products, you’re not mistaken. This piece gets to the root of the “trend.”

Although my full-time job is in beauty marketing, I’m well aware of the problem of the spending gap between men and women’s grooming, and how much more women spend on practically mandated beauty activities. This was a great read on the subject. And please, do not buy beauty products for anyone but yourself and your own entertainment.

Did you think I was done with Liberty University? I will never be done.

On Megxit and differentiating.

Larry David is my inner id (sometimes, I won’t lie, my outer). I’ve loved “Curb Your Enthusiasm” for years now, and I can’t get enough of this curmudgeon. Read more here.

Saying goodbye to Elizabeth Wurtzel, author of “Prozac Nation.”

This J.Crew Tissue turtleneck is owned by both Elizabeth and me, and we both look hot in it.

See. Super hot.

See. Super hot.

Honestly, I have no desire to see “Cats” - I didn’t like the origin music, and from all the reviews, it just looks terrible. That said, this account of people seeing it while high was an amazing read (and in The Washington Post - who would have thought?!)!

This whole racism-in-the-Romance Writers of America group story is wild and ugly. Here’s a good primer, and here’s the most recent update. I also read that the same day that I read this (hard to me) read about how white feminists oppress black women, which I definitely recommend even if you don’t care about the RWA.

I have long been a royal watcher (I blame my mother and her love of Princess Diana), and I am both shocked and saddened (and tbh, a little bit annoyed on behalf of ERII) by the events this week. I love Jane at From Berkshire to Buckingham, and I appreciate her take on it — I also think this article in The Atlantic pretty much sums up how I feel. I just hope this is a quick and not publicly dirty resolution.

This is cool: 7 Women in Hollywood on What It’s Really Like to Campaign for an Oscar.

I blame Shannon for this, but I have a new favorite lip color (she’s the one who turned me onto the crushed liquid lip, but I think she uses a different color): Main Squeeze by Bobbi Brown. It’s a bright pinky red color, and it’s perfect for this time of year.
