Elizabeth

I’m writing this before I go, but I am in London right now — I feel confident y’all know that because I’ve likely posted one or two times on stories about it. I do love my internet headpats after all. All that to say, I compiled this list of favorites before I hopped on a plane, so it may not be totally timely. Apologies, friends.

I love a good scam story, as I’ve posted about before, and I loved this round up of failed food festivals in DC. “There are so many horrible things nowadays in the world. To give people a little joy and take it away is cruel,” said one participant of a cancelled Mac and cheese festival. I do love pasta, but I love dramatic internet comments more. (Related: there was a terrible breakfast festival last weekend in the DMV, and people are crankyyyy).

I vividly remember watching the 2016 election results with NBC News on the TV, Twitter on my iPad, and FiveThirtyEight on my laptop. I’ve read “The Signal and the Noise,” and I love all kinds of nerdy data. I only tell you this so that you know I’m the perfect person to fangirl Nate Silver; however, I really…don’t. This article about his “fall from grace” articulated this feeling way better than I did.

This Prince Andrew stuff is wild. (for the record, I don’t think he should have done the interview, and I think this was the only appropriate step that could have been taken by The Firm)

I loved this article about costume design in Frozen 2 — yes, you have to do that even in animated films.

I accidentally walked 16 miles yesterday in my new leopard supergas, and it’s a miracle I can walk today. Best city shoes ever.

Moira

There’s this new bougie and expensive hobby I want to get into. It’s called candle pairing.

EE and Shannon are going to kick me off the blog for this, but I love Old Handsome Joe. Doesn’t mean I’m voting for him, but I do love him. Check out this lovely piece about, of all things, his stutter.

In preparation for our November book club, you should revisit Lindy West and Dan Savage’s back and forth from years ago. Neither of them come off well. Don’t let this scare you off of joining our book club, it’s just good background reading.

Should I buy CBD bath bombs? Probably.

Extremely important news.

Some people have too much money.

Shannon

I love a good beauty routine run-through. Katie Sturino’s at Into the Gloss is no exception. And not just because she loves Bumble and bumble Pret-a-Powder. (Disclosure: I work for the brand, and yes it is amazing. (I also HIGHLY recommend Megababe’s Thigh Rescue.)

This illustrated account of what goes on overnight at a bodega in Brooklyn was very engaging.

If you don’t love “Jeopardy,” I’m not sure we can be friends? I have fond memories of watching with my dad growing up; this column captured how so many of us who grew up watching the classic game show feel.

Jasmine Guillory’s novels are fun, frothy, and a straight up pleasure (vs a guilty pleasure). This Q&A with her is, too—I had no idea she is also a lawyer!

Please enjoy this updated list of Tom Hanks’ movies, ranked.
