As we start on this blog adventure, we thought that it would be great for you to get to know our reviewers one-on-one! We feel like we are all blog readers because we are nosy and like a peek into other people’s lives, so in order to sate that curiosity, a brief Q&A!

Name: Elizabeth

Location: Washington, DC

How did you become such a reader? I honestly don’t remember a time that I wasn’t a big reader. My parents set me up with a basket of books in my crib for me to “read,” and I haven’t stopped since. I was that kid with their nose in a book (or more accurately, hidden under my desk at school) always, and though I haven’t always had then time to read as much as I want, I have found book world to be a welcome respite in 2019.

What’s your favorite book - childhood edition? Besides Harry Potter, the Babysitters Club, and whatever in the UMS library had the highest number of AR points? The one book I remember reading and re-reading is Bloomability by Sharon Creech. I did not relate to Dinnie at all, but her adventures were so cool and so foreign to me!

What’s your favorite book to read as a grown up? I am a big comfort re-reader (as you will see from my reviews and Goodreads page), and the book I have probably revisited most often is The Guersney Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I love everything about it. Other honorable mentions include The Winds of War, The Pink Carnation series, and again, Harry Potter.

What’s your favorite place to read? Anywhere outside - on a beach, by a pool, in a park, on a patio — I’m an equal opportunity sunshine + book person.

What’s the “weirdest” place you read regularly? I often read on the Kindle app on my phone while walking my dog around the neighborhood. It’s a two-for-one!

What book do you want to see made into a movie? What’s your dream cast for it? A book I've read recently that I think would translate well to a movie is The Jane Austen Project. Dream cast includes Emily Blunt (as Jane), Rachel Weisz (as Rachel Katzman), Matthew Goode (as Liam Finucaine), Jack Davenport (as Henry), skinny Dan Stephens (as Stiles), and Rosamund Pike (as Sabina). I know, I know - a girl can dream with having all of young Britain in her fake movie!

What character in fiction do you most relate to? As much as I would like to say Hermoine Granger or Kristy Thomas, I’ve always seen a lot of myself in Lady Jane in Charles Finch’s series about Charles Lenox. She’s a loyal friend, a good hostess, an avid reader, sometime gossip, and steadfast companion — all things I aspire to be. I’m just glad I don’t have to do it in a bonnet and bustle.

What book still haunts you because you didn’t finish it? Wolf Hall by Hillary Mandel - by all accounts I should love it: literary historical fiction about my favorite country and one of my favorite time periods. I couldn’t get past the first 100 pages, and I’ve tried multiple times. I finally left it in a neighborhood Little Free Library so that I didn’t have to stare at it every time I picked out a new book.

What won’t you read? I don’t love super scary books because I try not to intentionally scare myself, if at all possible, and I'm not the biggest fan of high fantasy books with lots of war scenes and battle descriptions. That said, I’ll try just about anything - that’s how I’ve found some of my favorites!
